Box Score LEWISTON, Idaho - The College of Idaho women's tennis team started its 2023 season with a 5-2 win over NCAA Division III member, Whitworth on Saturday.
The Yotes began the day rallying from behind in doubles. The Pirates took the No. 2 flight before College of Idaho won at No. 1 and No. 3. The victory at No. 1 doubles came in a tiebreaker as the team of
Lauren Kreutzer and Leiana Amaraz won a tiebreaker by a 7-5 margin to edge their Whitworth counterparts, 7-6 to provide the doubles point for College of Idaho. Earlier in the match, the No. 3 doubles team of
Summer Townsend and
Morgan Leavitt were 6-4 winners.

As the match shifted to singles, in her collegiate debut,
Nicole Tran at the No. 3 flight and senior
Leiana Almaraz at the No. 2 flight won in straight sets to put the Yotes ahead 3-0 in the match. Whitworth picked up a win at No. 4 singles to cut the lead to 3-1.

The No. 1 flight played by junior
Lauren Kreutzer secured the win for the Yotes, winning in a tightly-contested three set match by a 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 margin. The fifth win for the day for College of Idaho came from junior
Summer Townsend, who won another tightly-contested matchup. She dropped the opening set by a 6-7 (2-7) margin but she came back to rally for the victory with a second set win in a tiebreaker and the third set was played in a 10-point tiebreaker fashion where she won with steady and smart play by a 10-8 margin.
