RED LODGE, Mont. – The College of Idaho women's alpine ski team punched their ticket to the USCSA National Championships, with a third-place finish in the alpine combined at the USCSA Western Regionals on Red Lodge Mountain.
The Yotes, who placed second in today's slalom event, finished tied with the University of Utah behind Rocky Mountain in the final standings – with Utah earning the second spot on the podium due to place points.
C of I had a stellar day, as three skiers placed in the Top-8, helping the Coyotes to a 2-run team time of 5:40.00, only bested by Rocky (5:19.00). Utah took third (5:44.87), followed by Colorado State (6:04.72) and Colorado (6:06.03).
Taylor Watkins led the way for C of I, placing fifth overall (1:52.69), with
Sasha Mueller in sixth (1:52.90) and
Amy Farley in eighth (1:54.41). Both
Kayla Vandecoevering and
Teresa McCallum completed their runs on the day, Vandecoevering in 39th (2:24.31) and McCallum in 55th (2:50.61).
Hilde Sato of Rocky earned the individual title (1:45.50), just ahead of teammate Bergitte Varne (1:46.43) and Utah's Charlotte Townshend (1:47.07).
C of I will next complete at the USCSA National Championships on Whiteface Mountain in Lake Placid, N.Y., March 6-12.
