CALDWELL, Idaho – College of Idaho's
Caleb Brown punched his ticket to the NAIA Indoor Track and Field National Championships with a victory in the heptathlon at the Polar Vortex Classic at Caldwell High.
The senior, who sat in the No. 19 position nationally heading into the meet, recorded a 7-event score of 4,669 points – vaulting into the No. 9 position, taking one of the 16 spots in the national meet.
Brown started the day with a 9.17 second effort in the 60-meter hurdles, followed by clearing 4.10 meters (13 feet, 5.25 inches) in the pole vault and recorded a time of 2:57.47 in the 1,000-meters.
In the field events –
Bryan Terry picked up a pair of wins, recording the top marks in the weight throw (16.59 meters / 54 feet, 5.25 inches) and the shot put (15.78 meters / 51 feet, 9.25 inches), with
Johan Cobena winning the triple jump (13.15 meters / 43 feet, 1.75 inches).
On the track,
Lane Maher won the 60-meter hurdles (8.38 seconds), with
Isaac Ballew recording the Yotes top time in the 600-meters (1:23.97) and
Brevin Vaughan taking the top spot in the 3,000-meters (8:46.10).
