2022 Football Notebook (Week 10 vs. Carroll)

WHAT'S ON THE LINE: With a win by College of Idaho, against Carroll, the Yotes will be the outright Frontier Conference champion. A C of I loss will share the league title between the Yotes and the Saints. The conference automatic bid to the NAIA playoffs will be decided by a tiebreaker. The criteria for the tiebreaker:
1. If only one team is ranked in top 20, that team will receive the automatic berth. This is needed to ensure we have at least one Frontier Conference school represented in the playoffs.
2. If two (or more) teams are ranked in top 20:
• Head-to-head
• Fewest defensive points allowed in conference games
Carroll College holds a 127 to 160 advantage
• Point differential between tied teams in head-to-head

FRONTIER CONFERENCE FACTS: Saturday's win over Southern Oregon gave College of Idaho a share of the Frontier Conference title for the fourth-straight year. The last two seasons, College of Idaho has shared the title with its only outright Frontier Conference title coming back in 2019. The last team to win four-straight is today's opponent Carroll College, who won 12 in a row from 2000 to 2011.

SENDING THEM OFF STRONG: 29 student-athletes along with student assistant coaches Braden Bale, Conner Croft and Matthew Larson will be taking part in their final games in Simplot Stadium. The group will be recognized in pre-game ceremonies. Among the 29 are: Gino Allen, Jacob Batubenga, JP Cardillo, Warren Craig, Hayden Dondero, Mikee Farrar, Cade Flint, Ryan Halford, Dorian Hardin, Ryan Hibbs, Ben Hruby, Kiran Jain, Will Janney, Jacob Johnson, Bridger Marboe, Dylan Martinez, Camille Massaad, Charlie Maynes, Miles Maupin, Keagan McCoy, Grant Miller, Jake Nadley, Cole Owen, Cody Nixon, Alex Ojukwu, Ed Osterberger, Garrett Rehberg and Jack RIce. Subject to change.

FINISHING STRONG:
The recipe for success in 2022 has been fourth quarter domination by the Yotes, who came into the contest as they have outscored their opponents by a 92-26 margin in the final 15 minutes. College of Idaho added to its margin, outscoring the Mountaineers by a 13-0 margin in the final stanza, last Saturday. In the earlier meeting, College of Idaho outscored the Saints by a 10-7 margin.

DEFENSIVE TOUCHDOWNS: When Jacob Arms stripped the ball out of the Mountaineers' ball carrier hands on Saturday and raced 90 yards the other way for a Yotes touchdown, it was his second defensive touchdown. The last player to score two defensive touchdowns was when Tony Quinn intercepted a pair of passes and returned them for TDs in 1972.

BALANCE IN THE GROUND GAME: Running backs Hunter Gilbert and Allamar Alexander enter today game with 130 rushes. Gilbert holds a slight advantage in yards gained over Alexander (741 to 737). Out of the wildcat formation, Jon Schofield has scored seven rushing touchdowns. Gilbert holds the team lead with nine and Alexander is third with five. The 1,790 rushing yards by the Yotes are the 17th most in program history and the 24 rushing TDs are the 10th most.

STIFLING THE RUN: The College of Idaho defense has allowed just six rushing touchdowns - the fewest allowed by a Yotes defense since the return of football in 2014. Opponents are rushing for an average of 96.9 yards per game, the lowest by an opponent since 2019 (93.4 ypg).

TAKING YOU FOR A LOSS: The Yotes racked up seven tackles for loss against Eastern Oregon. The second most on the season after a 12 TFL effort in the first meeting against Carroll.
