MCCALL, Idaho –
Taylor Watkins helped The College of Idaho complete a perfect opening weekend, winning her second Northwest Collegiate Ski Conference giant slalom qualifier, as the Coyotes cruised to a team win at Brundage Mountain.
Watkins recorded a 2-run time of 2:09.55 to finish just ahead of University of Oregon's Cailin Gahan (2:10.39), claiming the top spot on the podium. Fellow Coyote,
Sasha Mueller took home the bronze medal – less than a second off the winning time.
C of I finished with a team time of 6:34.07 – a full 13-seconds ahead of second-place Whitman (6:47.89), with Oregon in third (6:53.36).
Amy Farley completed the Coyote scoring trio, placing sixth (2:13.98), while four other C of I skiers completed their runs – as Kayla Vandercoevering was in 19th (2:28.07),
Kailey Owen placed 24th (2:41.09),
Madison Ewing in 35th (3:01.86), with
Teresa McCallum taking 40th (3:07.94).
The Yotes head next weekend to Silver Mountain for their first two slalom qualifiers.
