CALDWELL, Idaho –
Maya Murphy hit a pair of NAIA "B" qualifying times as The College of Idaho opened the 2021-22 swimming and diving season with a 133-23 victory over short-handed Simpson University inside the J.A. Albertson Aquatics Center.

Competing head-to-head against an opponent for the first time since the 2020 NAIA Championships, the Yotes won 9-of-11 events, including both relays.
Murphy blitzed the field with a time of 24.15 seconds in the 50-yard freestyle – just off her personal-best time and followed it with a 3-seconds win in the 100-yard freestyle (53.66). She was a part of both relay winning teams –as the 200-yard medley (1:54.72) and 400-yard freestyle (3:55.23) teams earned wins.
Also hitting an NAIA "B" mark on the day was
Anna Cook, who earned a win in the 100-yard butterfly with her time of 1:00.21.
C of I also got a pair of wins from
Kailey Owen – who claimed victories in the 200-yard IM (2:23.05) and the 100-yard backstroke (1:03.83).
Two other Yotes earned individual wins –
Laurel Rowe in the 1,000-yard freestyle (11:51.91) and
Isabel Carrillo in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:13.23).
The Redhawks, who had just three athletes competing – earned two wins – as Taryn Monnot was victorious in the 200-yard freestyle (2:04.50) and Irene Lopez won the 500-yard freestyle (5:41.05).
The Yotes return to action in two weeks, competing in California at the Slug Shootout and the Bay Area Invitational.
