MULLAN, Idaho – Making her College of Idaho debut, freshman
Sasha Mueller found the podium in the second of two slalom events, as the Coyote women's alpine ski team competed in the first USCSA Western Regional Qualifier at Lookout Pass Ski Area.
Mueller, who placed fourth in the morning race, earned the bronze medal in the afternoon runs – helping C of I to second-place team finish in both events.
Rocky Mountain claimed both team titles – with Bergide Varne winning the morning race and Hilde Sato claiming the afternoon combined.
In the early race, Mueller clocked a two-run time of 1:46.02, with
Amy Farley in sixth (1:51.24) and
Kayla Vandecoevering in 11th (2:04.56) to complete the Coyote scoring trio. Jose Pape (16th – 2:18.00),
Madison Ewing (19th – 2:44.08) and
Teresa McCallum (20th – 3:13.87) also were C of I finishers.
Rocky finished with a team time of 5:10.20, ahead of the Yotes (5:40.75), Lookout Pass Racing Team (6:19.25) and the University of Idaho (6:36.12).
In the twilight, Mueller put together a pair of outstanding times – finishing with a time of 1:42.63 – helping C of I to a team time of 5:34.47 – behind only RMC (5:07.75) and ahead of LPRT (5:51.25) and U of I (6:14.18).
Farley improved one spot in the afternoon, placing fifth (1:49.95), with Vandecoevering recording her second 11th-place finish 2:01.89.Both Pape (16th – 2:14.89) and McCallum (21st 2:56.21) completed two evening runs.
The teams will compete again Sunday in a pair of slalom qualifiers.
