LEWISTON, Idaho – College of Idaho opened the 2020 women's tennis season with a 6-1 loss to Whitworth University at the Lewis-Clark State Tennis Center.

The Coyotes (0-1) lost the doubles point – as WU won all three matches – with the tightest match at No. 3, where
Marissa Shirley and
Sydney Ewing dropped a 6-4 decision to Hannah Plank and Kyndal Locati.
C of I pulled within 2-1 after
Leiana Almaraz handily defeated Plank at No. 3 singles, 6-0, 6-4 – but the Pirates won the next two completed matches to secure the team win.
Alex Sorte played well at No. 2 – losing 7-5, 6-1 to Aleah Kert, with Shirley losing 6-4, 6-3 to Locati at No. 5.
The Yotes close out the weekend tomorrow with a morning match vs. host Lewis-Clark State.
