MCCALL, Idaho – A pair of College of Idaho freshmen made their collegiate alpine skiing debuts, as the Coyotes played host to the opening Northwest Collegiate Ski Conference giant slalom qualifier at Brundage Mountain.
Racing on a course that was pummeled by eight inches of snow overnight,
Josie Pape recorded a Top-30 finish, placing 29th overall (1:58.44), with
Madison Ewing just behind her in 33rd-place (2:05.44). The Coyotes finished seventh in the 8-team field with a two-run team time of 6:53.69.
The University of Washington took the team championship, with their combined time of 5:00.24 just ahead of the University of Idaho (5:04.48) and British Columbia (5:05.04).
Kira Lewis of UW earned the individual title, using a stellar second run to record a combined time of 1:35.36, just ahead of Run 1 leader Danielle Dolan of Puget Sound (1:37.29). Anastasia Kiku of UBC placed third (1:39.33), with U of I skiers Roan Willson (1:39.96) and Katrina Fischer (1:40.33) rounding out the Top-5.
The eight teams will close out the opening weekend with a second giant slalom qualifier, beginning at 10 a.m.
