CALDWELL, Idaho – For the first time in the 15-year history of the College of Idaho lacrosse program, the Coyotes pitched a shutout, as the ninth-ranked team in the MCLA Division II dominated Pacific Lutheran, 28-0, at Simplot Stadium.
Playing in their 138th all-time match, the Yotes (4-0, 1-0 PNCLL South) allowed just one shot on frame on the afternoon, while 13 different C of I players scored at least one goal. The hosts ran their home win streak to 13 in a row, dating back to the 2016 season.
Joey Brant keyed a 10-goal first quarter, scoring four markers in the opening 15 minutes – three of them assisted by
Casey Davies.
Davies dominated the second quarter, opening the scoring with a goal off an
R.J. Walker pass; feeding
Jason Leach for consecutive goals midway through the period; while scoring four-straight goals over the final six minutes – the last giving C of I a 21-0 lead at the break.
The final 30 minutes was played with a running clock, with both
Parker Archuleta and
Brad Hale scoring a pair of goals for the hosts.
Davies led C of I with six goals and seven assists; Brant had four goals and two helpers; with Leach scoring three.
Hank Ontiveros was perfect on his face-off attempts, adding a goal and five assists.
The Yotes return to action on Thursday, hosting No. 23 Utah State at 4:30 p.m.
