Nich Guzzetti established the College of Idaho single-season goals scored and assists record, along with all career scoring records, leading the Coyotes to a 9-4 victory over No. 13 ranked Cal State San Marcos in the consolation round of the MCLA Division II National Championships.
The senior scored four goals and added a helper on the day, as the Coyotes (12-3) tied the school record for wins in a season with 12.
Joey Brant broke a 2-2 tie early in the second quarter, starting a run of seven-straight goals in a 20-minute stretch by the Yotes to take command of the match against the Cougars (11-2), an at-large team from the Southwestern Lacrosse Conference.
Guzzetti became the first C of I player to record 200 goals in a career with a left-handed drive into the net early in the third quarter to extend the lead to 8-2 and followed with the final goal of his career two minutes later. He capped the year with 59 goals, 39 assists and 98 total points, while ending his career with 201 goals, 87 assists and 288 points – all school records.
Brant, a freshman, finished his first season with the Yotes with 58 goals and 30 assists – both the No. 2 mark for a season at C of I, while
R.J. Walker ended his first year with 46 goals.
