MONMOUTH, Ore. – For years, Western Oregon was the thorn in the side of the College of Idaho lacrosse program – dominating C of I for 11-straight years. However, things have definitely changed in the Pacific Northwest Collegiate Lacrosse League.
Behind an 11-0 start and a dominating defensive performance, the Coyotes ran roughshod against the perennial power for a second straight year, blowing out the home standing Wolves, 22-5, at the WOU Intramural Field.
Joey Brant had six goals and three assists, as the Coyotes (7-2, 3-0 PNCLL South) ran their win streak to five in a row – handing WOU their worst conference loss since the 2007 season.
C of I scored four goals in the first four minutes – as Brant fed
Cory Brady for a goal;
Nich Guzzetti set up goals by both Brant and
Tyler Sanchez; with
R.J. Walker driving home an unassisted goal. Brady and Walker scored two goals each in the first four minutes of the second quarter to balloon the lead to 11-0.
The Coyote defense did a number on the Wolves (4-4, 2-2), as
Avyion Fisher won 17-of-20 face offs and
Jonah Jordan made 13 saves – holding Western to their lowest scoring total of the season.
Walker finished with six goals, Brady tallied five goal, with Guzzetti scoring a goal and assisting on five others.
The Yotes return home next weekend to close out the regular season with matches against Southern Oregon and Portland.
