CALDWELL, Idaho – Lewis-Clark State scored eight runs over the final three innings to break a 4-4 tie, as the Warriors spoiled College of Idaho's Senior Day with a 12-4 victory at Wolfe Field.
The Coyotes (11-33, 4-24 NAIA West) rallied in the fifth inning, getting a two-out, two-run single by
Austin Van Horne, to tie the game – but the No. 4-ranked Warriors regained the lead in the seventh on a long three-run homer by Darren Trainor and tacked on insurance runs in their final two at bats.
Van Horne opened the scoring with a sacrifice fly in the first – scoring
Johnny Hyland, who led off the inning with a double. LCSC (29-8, 19-4) tied the score in the second on the second of two Raymond Pedrina doubles, but C of I regained the lead in the bottom of the inning when Hyland walked with the bases loaded.
A.J. Davis gave the Warriors a 3-2 lead with a two-run fourth inning single, with Kyle Callahan's RBI triple in the fifth extending the margin – before the Yotes fought back.
Joseph Riley got the win for L-C, tossing three shutout innings, retiring nine of the 10 men he faced. Trainor drove in four runs and had two hits, part of a 13-hit attack.
Hyland went 3-for-4 in the loss for C of I – one of the 11 seniors honored prior to the game.
The Yotes close the season next weekend with a four game series at Corban.
