Coyotes Lose Pair at UBC

VANCOUVER, B.C. – A four-hit day and a complete game effort on the mound from Dominic Conigliaro wasn't enough for the College of Idaho, as British Columbia swept a doubleheader from the Yotes for a second-straight day at Thunderbird Park.

UBC (18-17, 12-7 NAIA West) held on for a 5-4 win in Game 1, while three pitchers combined for a five-hit shutout in a 6-0 victory in the late contest.

The T-Birds plated all five of their runs in the opener in the first three innings, including two-run doubles from John Whaley and Anthony Cusati in each of the first two frames.

C of I (10-25, 3-16) battled back – getting RBI singles from Chase Labbe and Kole Lane in a three-run sixth, with an Austin Van Horne RBI ground out in the seventh cut the margin to 5-4. The Yotes would load the bases in the eighth, but could not deliver the tying or go-ahead run.

Conigliaro was 3-for-3 and pitched a complete game in the loss, working around 11 hits and allowing five runs.  UBC starter Adam McKillican fanned seven in seven innings for the win, with Braeden Allemann getting the final six outs for his first save.

Game 2 was all UBC, pounding out 14 hits – with Cusati singling home a pair in a four-run second inning. It was more than enough for James Bradwell, who struck out seven to earn the victory – limiting the Yotes to just five hits.

The two teams close out the weekend series with an Easter Sunday single game at 11 a.m. (PDT)
