WHITEFISH, Mont. / KANSAS CITY, Mo. – College of Idaho student-athletes sweep this week's Frontier Conference Football Player of the Week awards, with
Darius-James Peterson earning NAIA National Offensive Player of the Week accolades.
Peterson earned Frontier Conference Offensive Player of the Week honors for the third time this season, while he was joined by Nik Lyons, named Defensive Player of the Week, with
Kyle Mitchell earning Special Teams Player of the Week.
For Peterson, the junior from Novato, Calif., it was the third time in his career he has earned national honors – this time after rushing for 100 yards and three touchdowns, adding a season-high 266 passing yards and a career-high three touchdown passes, in a 45-34 upset of No. 14 ranked Southern Oregon. He established a new C of I single-season record for touchdowns responsible for (23) and a new career record for touchdown runs (40).
Lyons, a senior from Van Nuys, Calif., anchored the Coyote defense that limited SOU to just seven second half points – finishing the day with nine tackles and his third interception of the season.
Mitchell, a junior from Herriman, Utah, earns conference honors for the second time in his career, finishing a perfect 6-of-6 on extra points and converting a 33-yard field goal in Saturday's win.
The Yotes close out their home schedule on Saturday, hosting No. 18 Eastern Oregon at 1 p.m.
