REDDING, Calif. - The College of Idaho football team dominated on both sides of the ball Saturday, cruising to a 48-7 win over Simpson in their second-ever meeting.
Quarterback Caden Young set the tone early, tossing three first-half touchdowns to build a commanding lead. Two of those scores went to Corban Freese, while Jackson Ames hauled in another. Rylie Byington powered the ground game with 101 rushing yards and a 2-yard touchdown, and the defense added to the total when Arnez Madison returned an interception 22 yards for a score in the second quarter.
The Redhawks had to claw their way to their only touchdown, fumbling at the goal line before recovering the ball in the end zone for a short score midway through the second quarter.
The Yotes played deep into their roster after halftime, leaning on their ground game and special teams. Trey Gibson added a late rushing touchdown, and Josh Horn was perfect on the day, hitting field goals from 21 and 42 yards while converting all six PATs.
College of Idaho finished with 400 yards of total offense and three interceptions, coming from Madison, Willie White, and Danny Hernandez.
The win marked the Yotes' first trip to Redding after hosting Simpson's inaugural football game in Caldwell last fall. College of Idaho returns home for a bye week, looking to build on its strong midseason form before hosting Montana Western on October 18th.
