SURPRISE, Ariz. –
Kristin Paulazzo went 3-for-7 with five RBI on the day, as the College of Idaho split a pair of games on Day 2 of the OUAZ/Anderson Spirit Classic.
The Lady Yotes (3-1) lost their opener to Embry-Riddle (Ariz.), 9-5, before topping Ottawa (Ariz.), 8-3.
In the afternoon victory, Paulazzo,
Jordan Maddox and
Delaney Atkins all had two hits, with
Colette Robert tossing a complete game six-hitter to earn the win.
C of I spotted the Spirit (0-4) an early lead, thanks to a first inning unearned run, but the deficit was short-lived. The Yotes answered with an
Angelina Romero RBI double, a
Mallory Copeland sacrifice fly and a Paulazzo RBI single to grab a 3-1 lead.
The Yotes would extend the lead to 7-1 in the sixth – as
Bentli Corta drew a pinch-hit bases-loaded walk, followed by a Paulazzo 3-run triple. After a Vanessa Rodarte two-run homer got OUAZ within 7-3, C of I put the game away in their seventh, as
Lacie Miller blasted a long solo homer to center field.
The opener was a slugfest, as both teams recorded 13 hits.
Courtney Ellis and Maddox each had three hits for C of I, but the Yotes played catch-up the entire game – stranding 13 runners in the loss.
Consecutive two-out RBI hits in the first inning gave the Eagles (5-1) the 2-0 lead, with the Yotes cutting the lead in half with a second inning on a Paulazzo RBI single. ERAU added a single run in the third and three more in the fourth, before C of I cut the margin to 6-4 on a fourth inning
Taylor Eakle two-run single.
The big blow came in the fifth, as Daisy Hatcher-Taylor lined a two-out, bases-clearing double to extend the Eagles lead to 9-4.
Olivia Ramos gave up nine hits in relief for ERAU, but earned the win, as five different Eagles players had multiple-hit games.
C of I continues their road trip tomorrow, traveling to Benedictine Mesa for a doubleheader at 11 a.m.
