CALDWELL, Idaho –
Nich Guzzetti scored three goals to set the College of Idaho single-season scoring record, helping the Coyotes complete a perfect regular-season, crushing Washington State, 19-4, at Symms Field.
The Yotes (11-0) ran their win streak to 11 in a row heading into next weekend's PNCLL Championships – logging their first-ever victory against an MCLA Division I opponent. Trailing 9-3 at the half, the Cougars (4-8) requested the second half played with a running clock, with C of I outscoring WSU 10-1 in the final 30 minutes.
Guzzetti scored the first two goals of the third quarter, tying and breaking his own single-season scoring record, tallying his 44th goal of the season.
The match was never in doubt, as the Coyotes scored the first seven goals of the afternoon, as
Jaden Carson and
Cory Brady each scored a pair, with
Aaron Canode,
Jason Leach and
Tyler Sanchez all finding the net in the first 16 minutes. The Cougars cut the deficit to 7-3 on consecutive goals from Beau Olson, only to have Carson and Guzzetti answer in the waning moments of the second quarter to extend the Coyote lead.
Brady, Carson and Sanchez all had three goals for the Coyotes, with Canode scoring twice and assisting on four others.
V.J. Dahm was stellar in goal, turning away 14 shots.
C of I will learn their opponent for the semifinals of the PNCLL Championships on Monday – with the contest set for Saturday in Burnaby, B.C.
