NAMPA, Idaho – A dominating performance by the College of Idaho women's tennis team netted the Lady Yotes first sweep against a NCAA Division III school since 2005, blanking Willamette University, 9-0, at River City Racquet Club.
Complete Results The victory by the Lady Yotes (4-6) ended a four-match losing streak and capped the NCAA/NAIA season with their fourth win against a Northwest Conference foe in 2016. It was C of I's first 9-0 win against a D-III team since defeating Pacific University, 9-0, on March 13, 2005.
C of I made quick work of the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles' matches – as
Allie Boyd and
Megan Huffman topped the Bearcats (0-10) Hannah Andres and Rachel Kong, 8-2, and Laura Humphrey and
Vanessa Almaraz cruised to an 8-2 win over Katie Adams and Allie DiPasquale. The No. 1 doubles match was tight – with both teams earning service breaks early on – before the Yotes
Erin Huffman and
Hailey Boyd held off Alexis Gjurasic and Mikaila Smith, 8-5.
The Yotes grabbed all six singles points in straight-sets, with No. 1 singles providing the drama – as
Megan Huffman won a first set tiebreak (7-3) before dispatching Smith, 7-6, 6-3.
C of I closes out the season with three matches against junior colleges – beginning April 5 vs. Treasure Valley CC.
