WAIPIO, Hawaii – Playing their first of two Spring Break matches against Chaminade University, the College of Idaho could not overcome a deficit after doubles' play, dropping a tight 5-4 decision to the Silverswords at the CORP Complex.
The win for Chaminade (1-10) ended a 24-match losing streak, dating back to the 2013 season – which began with a loss to C of I that season.
CU took 2-of-3 doubles matches – including a key 8-5 victory by Melanie Schumilas and Roni Hewitt at No. 1 over the Yotes (1-5) Shae Stults and Allie Boyd.
Schumilas added a 6-4, 7-6 win over Boyd at No. 1 singles, as the Silverswords grabbed the first three positions in the singles' ladder to earn the team win.
Vanessa Almaraz and Laura Humphreys had a perfect day for C of I – teaming for an 8-0 win at No. 3 doubles, then each picking up 6-0, 6-0 victories in singles' play.
The two teams will meet again on Thursday morning.
