CALDWELL, Idaho – Nich Guzzetti scored a career-high eight goals, but it wasn't enough for the College of Idaho, as No. 19 ranked Utah State held off the Yotes, 17-15, at Symms Field.
The Yotes (3-1) battled back to tie the score on three occasions in the third quarter, but a Blade Garlow goal with less than three minutes remaining in the period gave the Aggies (4-1) the lead for good.
USU jumped out quickly, as Michael Christianson scored two goals and Garlow tallied the first of his six counters in opening five minutes, as the Aggies sprinted to a 4-1 lead. C of I countered, as a pair of Guzzetti goals, followed by a Dillon Green strike, tying the score, with an Ian Williams goal giving the Yotes a 5-4 edge late in the period.
The two teams traded scores in the second period, with a late Williams unassisted goal pulling the Coyotes within 10-9 at the break.
Guzzetti took over for C of I, scoring three straight goals to draw the Yotes even at 10-10, 11-11, and 12-12, before Garlow's put USU in front to stay.
Williams finished with three goals and an assist for the Yotes in the loss.
C of I returns to action on April 4 at the University of Portland.
