SALEM, Ore. – Take 2-of-3 doubles points and sweeping the final four singles matches of the afternoon, the College of Idaho recorded their first season opening victory since 2003, stopping Willamette University, 6-3, at the Courthouse Tennis Center.
Complete Results The win for the Yotes (1-0) was their first opening win since defeating Alberta, 6-3, 12 years ago, and ended a five-match losing streak to the Bearcats (0-3).
C of I took an early lead after doubles' play, as twin sisters Erin and Megan Huffman picked up their first collegiate win, stopping Ellen Rumley and Emily Guimont, 8-3, at No. 2. Laura Humphreys and Vanessa Almaraz followed suit, rolling past Katie Adams and Erin Tokutomi at No. 3, 8-3.
Despite dropping matches at No. 1 doubles and the top two singles spots, the Yotes took control with their depth. Humphreys grinded out a 6-4, 6-4 win at No. 3 over Rumley, with Erin Huffman following with a 6-4, 6-3 win at No. 5 over Adams. The Yotes would clinch the match as Allie Boyd dominated Guimont at No. 4 – 6-0, 6-2, with Almaraz picking up a win over Tokutomi at No. 6 – 6-0, 6-3.
The Lady Yotes continue their three-day tour of Oregon tomorrow with a morning match at George Fox.
