Box Score

KIRKLAND, Wash. - A record-setting second set fueled the College of Idaho to their first sweep of the 2014 season, dispatching Northwest University 30-28, 25-4, 25-22, inside the Northwest Pavilion.

The Lady Yotes (4-7, 1-1 CCC) held NU to just four points in the middle set - the lowest scoring output by a C of I opponent in a 25 or 30-point rally scoring period since collegiate volleyball adopted the scoring system in 2001.  It was the 27th time the Yotes had allowed a single-digit score in a set, with the previous low mark of five points, established three times, the last vs. Warner Pacific in 2011.

It wasn't easy, however, as Set 1 had the Eagles (7-8, 0-3) and Yotes record a combined 19 ties and 12 lead changes.  NU had set points at 24-23, 26-25, and 28-27 - but could not get the clincher.  C of I rattled off three straight points - tying the score on a Bailee Kendall spike, then getting back-to-back kills from Jenessa Koelliker and Katy Robinson to secure the win.

The Yotes were economical in Set 2, recording 12 kills on just 18 swings, while forcing the Eagles into seven hitting miscues.  C of I scored the first nine points of the period, including two kills and a block each by Emily Ottinger and Kylie Porter.  Three-straight Kilee Lopez aces extended the lead to 13-1, with two Ottinger kills and two Sierra Porter aces making it 20-2.

In Set 3, the Coyotes started quickly, scoring six of the first seven points, eventually extending the lead to 20-12.  However, NU rode the back of Amanda Waterman, who had five kills in a spirited 10-2 rally, to tie the set at 22-22 - only to see the Yotes score the final three points to win the match.

Ottinger led the Yotes with 14 kills in the victory, with Kendall adding nine.  Sierra Porter had 34 assists, 16 digs, and four aces, with Lopez leading C of I with 21 digs.

Waterman led NU with 12 digs.

The Coyotes return to action on Saturday, traveling to Evergreen for a 5 p.m. match.
