WAIPAHU, Hawaii - A sweep of doubles' competition fueled The College of Idaho women's tennis team, as the Lady Yotes earned their first victory against a four-year school this season, stopping Chaminade University, 6-2, at the Central Oahu Regional Park.
The Yotes (1-6) earned crucial 9-7 victories at the top two positions in the doubles ladder by Shae Stults and Jamie Taylor at No. 1 and Hayley Hutchings and Emily Tesnohlidek at No. 2. The No. 3 team of Cassie Low and Tanya Greenwood rolled to an 8-1 victory over Katherine Guerrero and Isel Barba - as the Lady Yotes have won eight of their last nine doubles matches.
Battling time and an incoming rain squall, the Yotes clinched the match against the NCAA Division II Silverswords (1-12) with the bottom of the singles ladder - as at No. 5, Greenwood stopped Barba, 6-3, 6-0, and Low, in her first singles match of the year, defeated Guerrero, 6-1, 6-0. At No. 3, Hutchings won her fifth match in six outings, defeating Roni Hewett, 6-1, 6-2.
It marked the first win against a four-year school since a 6-0 victory last season at Notre Dame de Namur.
The C of I returns to action tomorrow against Hawaii Pacific, ranked No. 5 in the ITA/NCAA Division II poll.
