Lady Yotes Narrowly Miss Upset in Hawaii

Hayley Hutchings picked up two wins today in Hawaii
WAIPAHU, Hawaii - Opening their Spring Break trip on Oahu, The College of Idaho women's tennis team played their best match of the 2013 season, dropping a tight 5-4 decision to regionally-ranked George Fox at the CORP Tennis Courts.

The Lady Yotes (0-6) took 2-of-3 doubles' points against the Bruins, ranked No. 11 in the latest NCAA Division III West Region poll, but could not maintain the advantage in singles' play.  C of I's progress was evident, as GFU (6-10) defeated the Yotes, 9-0, three weeks ago in Oregon.

Changing doubles' partners for the first time this season, the Yotes claimed wins at No. 2 and No. 3 - with Hayley Hutchings and Emily Tesnohlidek winning 8-3 over Alyssa Emoto and Alessa Wren and Cassie Low and Tanya Greenwood winning 8-6 over Ali Diehl and Bethany Nguyen.

The C of I earned two three-set wins in the top half of the singles' ladder - with Shae Stults gutting out a third set superbreaker to win 6-1, 5-7, 1-0 (10-7) over Molly Beaumont at No. 1 and Hutchings rallying from a set down to stop Chantelle Hadeed at No. 3, 4-6, 7-5, 1-0 (10-6).

Needing a win for the team victory, the Yotes came close at No. 5 (Megan Dahlberg defeated Greenwood, 6-3, 7-5) and at No. 6 (Ali Wittrig defeated Emilee Chapman, 6-1, 6-3.

The Yotes return to action tomorrow against Chaminade.
