CALDWELL, Idaho – On Senior Night, the five College of Idaho senior student-athletes combined for 34 of the Lady Yotes 42 kills, as the Purple and Gold clinched the outright Cascade Conference regular-season title with a 25-9, 25-15, 25-17 victory over Corban University.
The win for the Lady Yotes (16-9, 16-2 CCC) secures the host site for next week's CCC Championships, beginning Friday afternoon.
C of I rolled to the opening set win on the strength of senior Liz Myers, who had five of her game-high 13 kills in a 14-2 run to close the period.
Set 2 saw the Yotes sprint out to a 9-4 lead on an Elizabeth Trenkel ace, extending the margin to 19-9 on a Sierra Porter kill, grabbing the two-set lead.
The final set was tight, as the Warriors (7-21, 3-15) held a 11-9 lead and trailed just 18-17 after a Payton Wilcox kill. But back-to-back Myers-Kylee Nawahine combo-blocks fueled a seven-point run to end the match.
It was all seniors for the Yotes – as Lili Brochado had nine kills, Sofia Anxo had seven kills and five of C of I's 12 service aces, Nawahine had six kills and nine digs, with Janel Porter adding 15 digs and three aces. Sophomore Sierra Porter had 38 assists.
Corban was paced by Claire Bailey with eight kills and Olivia Shropshire added five spikes. Haley Meili had 13 assists and Katherine Salness had nine digs for the Warriors.
Pairing for the CCC Tournament will be determined on Tuesday night – with C of I playing the 7 p.m. match on Friday.
