Basterrechea is in his fourth season with the Coyotes...as a junior, missed most of the indoor season due to injury...outdoors, had a record-breaking campaign, setting school records in the high jump (6-9), long jump (23-8 1/2), and pole vault (14-5 1/4)...won the Cascade Conference title in the decathlon (6,991) and long jump, earning CCC Field Athlete of the Year...earned All-America honors in the decathlon at the NAIA Championships, where he placed second...named a CCC All-Academic Team selection, an NAIA Scholar-Athlete, and a first-team Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-American...in 2012, earned NAIA All-America honors indoors in the heptathlon, placing fifth at the NAIA Championships…set indoor school-records in the high jump, long jump, and heptathlon…outdoors, earned All-CCC honors and qualified for the NAIA Championships with a then school-record decathlon mark of 6,567 – but was injured at the national championships…also earned All-CCC honors in the long jump while placing second at the CCC Championships…had the top 400-meter and high jump marks by a C of I athlete during the season…had a phenomenal freshman season, qualifying for the NAIA Outdoor Championships in the decathlon, placing 12th...earned All-CCC honors in the decathlon, setting a then-school record with a score of 6,218...became the first-ever C of I men's runner to compete at USATF Junior Nationals, placing 13th in the decathlon...a 2010 graduate of Gooding High, where he competed in track and field…claimed the 2009 and 2010 3A state title in the high jump, winning the 2010 state title in the long jump...recorded top marks in high school of 49.68 in the 400-meters, 6-6 in the high jump, 21-11 in the long jump, and 43-0 in the triple jump...salutatorian of his senior class...undecided area of study...parents Rick and Debbie Basterrechea.
