LEWISTON, Idaho - College of Idaho dropped both games of Saturday's doubleheader at No. 7 Lewis-Clark State, falling 10-0 in Game 2 and 9-3 in Game 3 of the series at Harris Field.
In the opener, the Yotes were limited to two hits and were unable to generate sustained offense. James Hull and Jace Mahlke accounted for the lone hits, while College of Idaho left three runners on base.
The game turned in the fifth inning when Lewis-Clark State scored five times to pull away. Heath Sasser-Gunson was charged with the loss after working four innings, allowing seven runs, five earned. Kayden Sandow pitched the final 3.2 innings in relief.
College of Idaho showed more offensive life in Game 3, collecting seven hits and scoring in multiple innings, but could not overcome an early deficit.
The Yotes opened the scoring in the first inning when Skye Palmer singled to drive in Hull. After falling behind, College of Idaho responded in the fifth inning with two runs. Connor Olsen scored on a wild pitch, and Austin Moon added a sacrifice fly to plate Hull and cut the margin to four.
Hull led the Yotes at the plate, finishing 2-for-3 with two runs scored. Mahlke also went 2-for-3, while Palmer and Moon each recorded an RBI.
Zaylor Bruegeman took the loss after allowing five runs in 2.1 innings. Calvin Euper provided four solid innings out of the bullpen, striking out five while allowing two runs, one earned.
College of Idaho is now 20-11 overall and 11-9 in Cascade Collegiate Conference play. The series concludes Sunday before the Yotes return to Caldwell.
