REDDING, Calif. – The College of Idaho beach volleyball team split a Cascade Collegiate Conference doubleheader Friday at the Redding Sports Complex, opening with a thrilling 3-2 victory over Northwest University before falling 4-1 to Southern Oregon.
In the opener against Northwest, the Yotes jumped out to an early lead as Greta Valaika and Liza Montalbo earned a forfeit in the No. 1 match. Northwest responded with wins in the No. 2 and No. 3 matches, but College of Idaho rallied late with victories from Kadance Jacobson and Emily Lettenmaier in the No. 4 match (22-20, 24-22) and Kelsy Stanger and Jayva Andersen in the No. 5 match (21-8, 21-8) to secure the 3-2 win. The victory improved College of Idaho to 3-2 overall and in CCC play, while Northwest fell to 0-4.
In the second match, Southern Oregon proved too strong, posting a 4-1 win over the Yotes. College of Idaho's lone victory came from Faith Faucher and Ellie Baker in the No. 4 match (23-21, 21-16). Southern Oregon captured the remaining matches, including a three-set finish in the No. 5 match, moving the Yotes to 3-3 overall and in conference standings.
