KEIZER, Ore. — The College of Idaho capped its weekend at Corban with a decisive 9-1 victory in Saturday's Cascade Conference matchup before falling 10-5 in a nonconference contest. The Yotes, who split Friday's doubleheader, claimed the CCC series 2-1 and now stand at 12-4 overall and 4-2 in league play.
Game 1: Yotes 9, Corban 1 (CCC Game)
Behind a dominant start from Heath Sasser-Gunson and a surge of late offense, The College of Idaho controlled the opener from start to finish. Sasser-Gunson worked six shutout innings, allowing just one hit with four strikeouts before giving way to Jakob Cummins, who closed the final three frames.
The Yotes broke a scoreless tie in the fifth when Corbin Sterner delivered a run-scoring single. An inning later, they blew the game open. After a walk to Jack Ryan forced in a run, Sterner followed with a two-run double to make it 4-0. Sterner finished with three RBI, while Darren Smith had two hits and scored once.
Corban's lone run came in the seventh on a double from Velez-Fuc, but the Yotes answered with a four-run ninth. Evan Brown doubled to start the inning, and RBI hits from Cody Guy, Austin Moon and Caden Casagrand put the game well out of reach. The College of Idaho totaled 10 hits and did not allow an earned run until the seventh.
Game 2: Corban 10, Yotes 5 (Nonconference)
The Yotes struck early with two runs in the top of the first, highlighted by an RBI double from Moon and a run plated on a fielder's choice by Skye Palmer. Corban matched the two-spot in the bottom half and then seized control with a six-run second inning, capitalizing on five hits and a defensive miscue to jump ahead 8-2.
The Yotes mounted late offense, including an RBI single from Tucker Seabaugh in the seventh and a run-scoring double by Hunter in the eighth. Logan Dreher added an unearned run when he reached on an error to cut the deficit to 10-5, but Corban's bullpen held firm in the final innings.
Maddox Weight led the Yotes with three hits, while Moon, Hunter and Dreher each recorded multi-base hits.
