Yotes Split The Day, Win the Series

LA GRANDE, Ore. The College of Idaho split Monday's doubleheader at Eastern Oregon University, dropping the conference-counting Game 3, 11-5, before roaring back to take the nonconference Game 4, 15-4. The Yotes won the conference series 2-1 after sweeping both games Saturday.

Game 3 (conference): Eastern Oregon 11, The College of Idaho 5
Eastern Oregon jumped in front in the first on a four-run homer by Lucas Smith and never trailed. James Hull got The College of Idaho on the board with a solo home run to right-center in the third. The Mountaineers added single runs in the third and fourth for a 6-1 lead before Cody Guy answered with a solo homer in the fifth. The Yotes closed to 6-4 in the sixth on a Hull RBI groundout and a Guy RBI single that plated Evan Brown. EOU regained control with a four-run seventh. The College of Idaho's final run came in the seventh when Jack Ryan doubled and scored on a wild pitch.

Game 4 (nonconference): The College of Idaho 15, Eastern Oregon 4
The Yotes' offense surged for 17 hits, with Austin Moon going 4-for-5 with five RBIs to pace a balanced attack. The College of Idaho struck twice in the first when Hull scored on a wild pitch that moved Guy to third, followed by an RBI single from Moon. A five-run third broke the game open as Moon lined a two-run single, Jace Mahlke added an RBI single that turned into two bases on an error, and Keitaro Adachi drove in two with a single to right. Moon delivered again in the fourth with an RBI single, and the Yotes added back-to-back solo home runs in the fifth from Jace Mahlke and pinch hitter CJ Hunter. In the sixth, Ryan roped an RBI double, and the seventh brought four more runs on a two-run homer by P. Bacon, a run-scoring error, and an A. Moon RBI single.

Grant Jakobson earned the win after five innings, with Willy Shirts and Ryan each tossing a scoreless frame to finish the seven-inning contest.
