CALDWELL, Idaho – The College of Idaho swim teams hit the pool at the J.A. Albertson Aquatic Center on Saturday, with the women's team hosting the University of Idaho in dual action while the men's squad competed in a series of intrasquad races.
The Yotes women's team posted several encouraging performances as swimmers continued to build toward the heart of the season, while the men's team delivered strong times throughout an action-packed afternoon of competition amongst themselves.
On the men's side, the quartet of
Brayden McCullough,
Alec Rodriguez, Jay Jarricho and
Matti Eikenes opened the meet with a victory in the 200-yard medley relay.
Jarricho later added an individual win in the 200-yard freestyle, touching the wall first in 2:01.53, while Eikenes claimed the 50-yard freestyle in 23.47 seconds. Eikenes was pushed throughout the race by
Olin Hamilton, who finished just behind in 23.70 seconds.
The Yotes continued to show depth across the lineup as
Ciaran Brown captured the 100-yard butterfly with a winning mark of 58.54, and Eikenes earned his second individual victory of the day in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 51.10.
McCullough added another event title for the Yotes by winning the 100-yard breaststroke before Hamilton, McCullough,
Elliott West, and Eikenes teamed up to close the afternoon with a victory in the 400-yard freestyle relay.
For the women, several swimmers turned in performances near personal and season-best marks against NCAA Division I competition.
Sophie Mottishaw delivered one of the top swims of the day, clocking a 28.49 in the 50-yard freestyle, just off her season-best performance. In the 100-yard backstroke,
Ally Vincent posted a 1:16.99, finishing only two-tenths of a second shy of her lifetime best in the event.
The Yotes will return to action Oct. 16-17 when they travel to Santa Cruz, California, for the Slug Shootout hosted by UC Santa Cruz.
