Fast Start Puts Yotes Past Wolves

COLLEGE PLACE, Wash. — A fast start and a complete team effort powered The College of Idaho to an 82-35 win over Walla Walla on Saturday night. The Yotes erupted for 32 first-quarter points and controlled the game from start to finish, improving to 14-6 overall and 8-4 in Cascade Collegiate Conference play.

Twelve different Yotes reached the scoring column. Brooke Beresford led the way with 12 points on 5-of-6 shooting. Anna Mooney and Kylie Waltermeyer each scored nine, while Lainee Houillon finished with nine as well. Annie Stinar sparked the opening frame with eight points as the Yotes built a commanding early lead.

The College of Idaho shot 45.5 percent from the field and knocked down 14 three-pointers, finishing at 38.9 percent from beyond the arc. Mooney hit four threes and Waltermeyer added three. The Yotes also dominated the glass with a 50-32 rebounding advantage, highlighted by nine boards from Maiya Hardy and eight from Waltermeyer.

Defensively, the Yotes held Walla Walla to 22.8 percent shooting and forced 15 turnovers, converting them into 14 points. The Wolves managed only eight points in each of the first two quarters as The College of Idaho surged to a 58-16 halftime lead.

Rylie McManus added six fourth-quarter points, all from beyond the arc, and Kylie Fisher scored two from the free throw line. Every Yote who entered the game contributed either a point, rebound or assist in the victory.

The College of Idaho returns to action on January 27, traveling to La Grande, Oregon, to face rival Eastern Oregon University. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m. MT.
