CALDWELL, IDAHO - No. 20 Corban University shot 51 percent from the field and 50 percent from three to leave J.A. Albertson Activities Center with a 73-61 win over The College of Idaho on Saturday afternoon. The loss moves the Yotes to 13-5 overall and 6-3 in conference play, while the Warriors improve to 14-4 and 7-3.
Corban opened the afternoon with a 27-point first quarter on 69.2 percent shooting and never trailed, building its largest lead at 17. The Warriors finished 13-of-26 from behind the arc and assisted on 16 of their 25 field goals. Jersey Huerta and Jenna Albrecht led the offensive surge with 18 points each; Huerta added five assists and six rebounds, while Albrecht grabbed a team-high eight boards and went 4-of-5 from three. Tori Younker scored 11 points and Emilia Bishop contributed 10 points, four rebounds and a team-leading three assists.
The Yotes countered with strong efforts from several starters.
Maiya Hardy and
Anna Mooney each finished with 13 points. Hardy added seven rebounds and four steals, while Mooney hit three three-pointers and went a perfect 4-of-4 at the line.
Riley Beck provided an efficient spark off the bench with 13 points on 4-of-6 shooting and four made free throws.
Kylie Waltermeyer recorded seven points and eight rebounds, and
Brooke Beresford finished with eight points, five boards and three assists.
Statistically, Corban held advantages in shooting percentage (51 to 33.3) and three-point accuracy (50 to 26.1), though both teams finished with 35 rebounds. The Yotes generated 19 points off 17 Warrior turnovers and held a 14-3 margin in second-chance scoring. Points in the paint were even at 22-22.
Trailing 42-34 at halftime, The College of Idaho pulled within single digits multiple times in the third quarter, but Corban's perimeter shooting continued to answer each run.
The Yotes now turn their attention to a ranked road test. The College of Idaho visits No. 13 Lewis-Clark State College on January 23 in Lewiston, Idaho. Tipoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. MT.
