Road Warriors: Yotes Upset No. 20 Oregon Tech

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. - The College of Idaho women's basketball team closed a landmark Cascade Conference road trip Friday afternoon with a 66-57 upset of No. 20 Oregon Tech, snapping a seven-game losing streak to the Owls and completing its first Southern Oregon-Oregon Tech sweep in more than 10 years.

College of Idaho (12-4, 6-2 CCC) followed up its win earlier in the week at Southern Oregon by knocking off the ranked Owls behind a poised fourth-quarter performance and a balanced scoring effort.

The Yotes outscored Oregon Tech 22-15 in the final period and went 12-of-14 from the free-throw line in the quarter to pull away late in a game that featured five ties and five lead changes.

Anna Mooney led College of Idaho with 16 points, including 11 free throws in the fourth quarter to ice the win. Kylie Waltermeyer added 12 points, while Brooke Beresford chipped in eight points and five rebounds. The Yotes' bench contributed 24 points, providing a key spark throughout the contest.

College of Idaho forced 18 turnovers and converted them into 18 points, a decisive factor against an Oregon Tech team that entered the game ranked 20th in the NAIA.

Oregon Tech (9-7, 5-3 CCC) was paced by Tatum Schmerbach, who finished with 24 points and seven rebounds. Jozie Ramos added 11 points for the Owls, but Oregon Tech was limited to 30.8 percent shooting in the fourth quarter.

The Yotes trailed 17-12 after the opening quarter before responding with a 17-10 second quarter to take a 29-27 halftime lead. Neither team led by more than five points until College of Idaho closed the game with composure at the free-throw line in the final minutes.

The victory marked College of Idaho's first win over Oregon Tech since the 2021 season and underscored a statement weekend in the Cascade Conference race.
