No Rocky Road: Yotes Roll to 37-20 Victory

BILLINGS, Mont. - Caden Young accounted for 349 total yards and three touchdown passes to lead College of Idaho past Rocky Mountain 37-20 on Saturday at Herb Klindt Field.

Young completed 23 of 35 passes for 238 yards and three scores while rushing for a team-high 111 yards on 17 carries. He connected with Jackson Ames for a 6-yard strike in the second quarter and added fourth-quarter touchdowns to Torey Watkins (5 yards) and Jacob Morales (32 yards) as the Yotes (2-0) pulled away late.

Morales' score was the highlight of the day, leaping in traffic to haul in a 32-yard pass just shy of the goal line with two defenders on him before tumbling into the end zone. Travis Marieiro added to the firepower with five receptions for 49 yards and a critical 4-yard touchdown run before halftime.

Rylie Byington shouldered the heaviest rushing load, carrying 19 times for 91 yards and the game-sealing 1-yard touchdown in the closing minutes.

After Rocky Mountain's Darius Haskin hauled in a 75-yard touchdown to cut the lead to 16-14 in the third, College of Idaho answered with three straight touchdown drives to seize control.

Watkins was Young's top target, catching 10 passes for 71 yards and a score.

The Yotes' defense held Rocky to just 29 rushing yards, though Battlin' Bears quarterback Trent Nobach threw for 336 yards and three touchdowns. Haskin led all receivers with six catches for 207 yards and two long scores.

College of Idaho dominated possession (40:09 to 19:51) and piled up 484 yards of offense, including 246 on the ground.

The Yotes return to action Sept. 20, hosting Montana State-Northern for Homecoming weekend in Caldwell.
