Yotes Make the Short Trip Count with Big Performances at Boise State

BOISE, Idaho - The College of Idaho track and field teams stayed close to home and made the most of it Friday evening at the Ed Jacoby Twilight hosted by Boise State, putting together a standout showing before storms rolled through.

The Yotes combined for 36 personal records, five new Cascade Conference qualifying marks, all from the men's team, and two new NAIA national "B" standard qualifiers. Five new marks were also added to the program's all-time Top 10 lists.

On the men's side, Chris Shakespeare sprinted to a third-place finish in the 100 meters (11.13) and took fourth in the 200 meters (22.05). Zach Curtsinger placed fifth in the 400 meters (49.19), while Braden Heath (3:57.11), Elias Everist (3:57.25) and Brevin Vaughan (3:58.35) each punched their tickets to the conference meet in the 1500 meters. The 4x100-meter relay team of Jonah Sowell, Dylan Wolfe, Jeremiah Chukwudobe and Shakespeare clocked a 41.53 to place third and post the second-fastest time in school history. The 4x400-meter squad of Wolfe, Trevor Treat, Jett Longanecker and Curtsinger placed second in 3:19.43, now the third-best time in Yotes history.

In field events, Logan Prince cleared 1.95 meters to place third in the high jump, while Eli Hayes (long jump) and Nolan Mead (triple jump) each added new conference qualifiers to the list.

On the women's side, Charlotte Bowman claimed a win in the 100 meters (12.22) and improved her No. 4 all-time mark in the long jump with a fifth-place finish. Isis Villafane climbed to No. 4 all-time in the 200 meters with her run of 25.42 seconds.

Two women's relay teams secured NAIA "B" standard national qualifying marks. Bowman, Zoe Butler, Kylee Quinton and Villafane combined to run 3:52.81 in the 4x400-meter relay, while Kiely Munson, Jovi Kuskie, Kimbrie Knudsen and Butler clocked 9:27.06 in the 4x800-meter relay. Both relays currently sit No. 13 in the nation.

In the field, Kiriann Johnson tied her own school record in the pole vault by clearing 3.60 meters, and Ella Christensen placed seventh in the hammer throw at 44.74 meters.

The Yotes will have one final tune-up next weekend before heading to the Cascade Conference Championships in two weeks.
