SEATTLE, Wash. – The No. 10-ranked College of Idaho beach volleyball team split a pair of matchups against No. 2 Corban while securing two victories over Bushnell at the Cascade Collegiate Conference tournament at Alki Beach.
The Yotes (7-4, 7-4 CCC) opened the weekend on Friday with a dominant 4-1 win over Bushnell. The No. 1 pairing of Haley Hoopes and Sydney Dews led the way with a straight-set victory, while Greta Valaika and Deshy Sandoval clinched a competitive second match, 21-11, 24-22. Faith Faucher and Maya Blake secured the No. 3 match in convincing fashion, 21-17, 21-8, while Ellie Baker and Liza Montalbo rallied from a set down to win 16-21, 21-11, 15-13 in the No. 4 slot.
Later that day, the Yotes faced No. 2 Corban, falling 4-1. The duo of Capri Salmon and Emily Lettenmaier secured the lone victory for College of Idaho in the No. 5 pairing, rallying to defeat Sydney Sanford and Jordan Faircloth in three sets, 21-13, 21-14, 15-8.
On Saturday, College of Idaho faced Bushnell again, securing a tight 3-2 victory. Hoopes and Dews cruised to a 21-9, 21-17 win in the No. 1 pairing, while Valaika and Sandoval secured another straight-set victory at No. 2. With the match tied 2-2, Salmon and Lettenmaier delivered in the clutch, bouncing back from a first-set loss to win 19-21, 21-13, 15-5, sealing the team victory.
The Yotes closed out the weekend with another matchup against Corban, falling 4-1 for the second time in the tournament. Valaika and Sandoval provided the Yotes' only victory, winning their No. 2 match in straight sets, 21-19, 21-17. Despite strong efforts from the remaining pairs, the Warriors proved too much, remaining undefeated in CCC play.
College of Idaho will return to action next weekend as they continue CCC play, looking to build momentum heading into the final stretch of the season.
