KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. — The College of Idaho baseball team split a doubleheader with Oregon Tech on Saturday, claiming a 3-2 victory in the opener before falling 12-2 in the second game at Steen Sports Park.
In the first game, the Yotes (14-13, 4-10 CCC) capitalized on clutch pitching performances and late scoring to secure the win. Starter Oliver Massie threw seven strong innings, allowing two runs on four hits while striking out seven. Reliever Zaylor Bruegeman (2-1) earned the win with 1.1 scoreless innings, and Kaden Lapp picked up his second save of the season with a two-out save in the ninth.
The Yotes took a 2-0 lead in the third inning when James Hull delivered an RBI single and Jack Ingraham followed with an RBI double. Oregon Tech (16-9, 7-7 CCC) responded in the fifth with two runs on a pair of wild pitches. The game remained tied until the top of the ninth when Chandler Stocking scored the go-ahead run on a wild pitch to seal the 3-2 victory.
In the second game, Oregon Tech's offense erupted for 12 runs on 11 hits, highlighted by a six-run fifth inning that broke the game open. Barry led the Owls' attack, scoring five runs while going 2-for-2 with an RBI and three stolen bases. Mizuta added a three-run double during the pivotal fifth inning.
College of Idaho managed six hits in the nightcap, with Cannon Morgan driving in a run on an RBI double in the second inning. Hull added a sacrifice fly in the fifth. Starter Nate Vidlak (1-1) took the loss, surrendering nine runs (eight earned) over 4.1 innings.
The teams will fight for the series win and conclude their weekend series on Sunday.
