Luis Fisher Named Director of Athletic Bands at College of Idaho

hCALDWELL, Idaho — The College of Idaho is pleased to announce the hiring of Luis Fisher as the new Director of Athletic Bands. Fisher brings more than two decades of experience in music education, performance, and leadership to the role.

Fisher holds a Master of Arts in Teaching degree from Trevecca Nazarene University in Nashville, Tennessee, and a Bachelor of Science in Music degree in Instrumental Music from the University of North Alabama in Florence, Alabama. His extensive background includes directing award-winning music programs, and serving as an adjudicator for the marching performing arts.  

Most recently, Fisher was the Director of Bands and Music Department Chair at Gateway High School in Fort Myers, Florida. He directed two concert bands, a marching band, and a pep band. Under his leadership, the music program at Gateway grew from a 12-student freshman band when the school opened in 2020 to a music program that includes the aforementioned band ensembles plus two orchestras and three choral ensembles.  His experience also includes almost a decade as a performer with the Florida Wave, Colts, and Atlanta CV Drum & Bugle Corps and two seasons as an instructor with the Teal Sound and Colts Drum & Bugle Corps.  Fisher is now in his second term on the Board of Directors for the Dubuque, Iowa-based Colts Drum & Bugle Corps.

Fisher has earned numerous accolades, including induction into the Lee County (FL) Academy of Teachers and receiving the prestigious Golden Apple Teacher Award in 2023. He was a Grammy Award for Music Education nominee in 2019.

A veteran of the United States Air Force, Fisher served honorably for over a decade ascending to the rank of Staff Sergeant and serving in locales such as Arizona, Florida, Europe, Africa, and Southwest Asia. His professional affiliations include the National Association for Music Education, Florida Bandmasters Association, Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Fraternity, and Kappa Kappa Psi National Honorary Band Fraternity.

The College of Idaho is excited to welcome Fisher as he takes on the responsibility of leading the athletic bands and contributing to the vibrant culture of Yotes Athletics.
