CALDWELL, Idaho — The College of Idaho nearly pulled off a stunning comeback Saturday, erasing a 16-point second-quarter deficit before falling 78-74 in overtime to Lewis-Clark State College (Idaho) in a Cascade Conference thriller.
The Yotes trailed 25-9 midway through the second quarter and were down 38-28 at halftime, but stormed back with a 20-point third quarter to seize their first lead at 48-45 on an Anna Mooney 3-pointer with 2:49 left in the period. Mooney was electric, scoring a game-high 22 points and hitting six 3-pointers, while Kylie Waltermeyer added 16 points and six assists. Maiya Hardy chipped in 12 points and 10 rebounds.
Lewis-Clark State regained control late, but the Yotes forced overtime when Waltermeyer calmly sank two free throws with five seconds left to tie it at 64-all. In the extra frame, Sitara Byrd and Payton Hymas delivered clutch buckets for the Warriors, who outscored C of I 14-10 in OT. Hymas finished with 19 points, while Byrd had 16 and Darian Herring added 11 points and seven rebounds.
The Yotes shot just 13.3% in the first quarter and trailed 13-6 after 10 minutes, but finished with 10 made 3-pointers and 17 assists. Lewis-Clark State dominated the paint 40-18 and held a 45-42 edge on the glass.
The College of Idaho (7-3, 1-1 CCC) returns to action Dec. 19 at The Evergreen State College. Tipoff is set for 6:30 p.m. MT.
