CALDWELL, Idaho - College of Idaho opened Cascade Conference play with a strong 91–72 win over Walla Walla on Friday afternoon inside Elgin Baylor Arena, using a blistering second half to create separation and move to 6-3 on the season.
The Yotes shot 56.9 percent from the field and 70 percent after halftime, anchored by the backcourt duo of Freshman Rey Johnston and Senior Samaje Morgan, who combined for 45 points. Johnston scored a game-high and career-high 23 points on 10-of-14 shooting while adding five rebounds and two blocks. Morgan finished with 22 points, six rebounds and four assists, knocking down 9 of 13 attempts.
Alex Germer added 16 points with three 3-pointers, and Utrillo Morris provided an efficient lift off the bench with 11 points on 5-of-5 shooting. College of Idaho controlled the interior all afternoon, outscoring the Wolves 46–32 in the paint and producing 22 second-chance points.
The Yotes led 41–29 at halftime before erupting for 50 points in the second half, stretching the margin to as many as 19 in the closing minute. C of I committed just six turnovers while forcing 15, turning those miscues into 18 points.
Walla Walla, now 0–6 overall and 0–1 in the CCC, shot an even 50 percent from the field and was paced by Soren Dalan, who finished with 16 points and eight rebounds, and Reese Snellman, who posted 13 points, eight assists and two steals. Jordan Jackson added 14 points with three made threes, while Chike Ezeonu contributed 11.
The Yotes continue conference play tomorrow as they host Lewis Clark State at 5 p.m.
