Yotes Clinical In Front of Goal to Defeat Hustlin' Owls

CALDWELL, Idaho – The College of Idaho men's soccer team finally broke free from a string of stalemates, and they did it in style.

After three consecutive draws, the Yotes delivered a commanding 3-0 victory over Oregon Tech Saturday night at Simplot Stadium. The win not only snapped the tie streak but also vaulted C of I into sixth place in the Cascade Conference standings, two points clear of Oregon Tech with both the 8th place Owls and 7th place Bushnell holding a game in hand.

Eric Hornung opened the scoring in the ninth minute, finishing a crisp setup from Krew Christensen to give the Yotes an early edge. Sawyer Luthy doubled the lead just after halftime, converting a pass from Pierre Fabre in the 50th minute. Keidin Green sealed the result with an 82nd-minute penalty, capping a clinical performance that saw C of I score on three of its six shots on frame.

For the Hustlin' Owls, Elias Castro fired off six shots on the night to lead everyone on the field. Oregon Tech outshot the Yotes 21 to 9 but could not consistently keep shots on frame. Both squads managed six shots on target.

Goalkeeper Matej Hron was immense, recording six saves to preserve the shutout as Oregon Tech fired 21 shots but failed to break through.

With tonight's results across the league, the Yotes (3-3-4, 3-3-3 CCC) control their postseason hopes heading into the final stretch. They will wrap up their home schedule on Oct. 25 with a 6:30 p.m. kickoff against University of Providence (Mont.) at Simplot Stadium.
