CALDWELL, Idaho — Eric Hornung set a new program record with 11 points Saturday afternoon, scoring four goals and assisting on three others to lead The College of Idaho men's soccer team to a commanding 9-1 win over Providence (Mont.) at Simplot Stadium.
Hornung opened the scoring in the fourth minute off a pass from Pierre Fabre, then assisted Fabre's goal in the 20th minute alongside Krew Christensen. After Providence pulled one back in the 39th minute, the Yotes erupted for seven second-half goals.
Hornung added goals in the 59th, 83rd and 85th minutes, assisted by Christensen and Keidin Green, before scoring himself unassisted.
Fabre scored again in the 74th minute unassisted, while Green closed the match with goals in the 89th and 90th minutes to seal the deal.
Keidin Green finished with two goals and two assists. Fabre added two goals and one assist. Krew Christensen had one goal and two assists. The Yotes totaled 22 shots, 12 on goal, and held Providence to just one goal on 13 attempts.
Matej Hron made six saves in goal to earn the win.
With the result, The College of Idaho (4-3-4, 4-3-3 CCC) moved into fifth place in the Cascade Collegiate Conference standings, five points clear of ninth with two matches remaining. Two draws or a win next weekend would secure a spot in the CCC tournament.
The Yotes will conclude the regular season on the road against The Evergreen State and Northwest University.
