MOSCOW, Idaho – The College of Idaho track and field team delivered a stellar performance to open the 2025 season, setting four school records and earning numerous all-time top-10 marks at the Lauren McCluskey Memorial Open, hosted by the University of Idaho.
Sprints and Relays
The Yotes shone in the sprints, highlighted by Chris Shakespeare's record-breaking 22.23 in the 200m, eclipsing the previous school mark. Teammates Jonah Sowell (22.75), Jeremiah Chukwudobe (22.79), and Dylan Wolfe (22.92) joined him in rewriting the program's history, claiming fifth, seventh, and ninth all-time, respectively. Wolfe continued his strong meet on Day 2, running 7.08 in the 60m to secure the second-fastest time in school history.
The men's 4x400m relay team of Shakespeare, Wolfe, Sowell, and Zach Curtsinger capped the meet with a school-record performance, finishing in 3:19.26. On the women's side, the 4x400m squad of Alexis Thrall, Isis Villafane, Stella Gray, and Charlotte Bowman clocked 4:07.23, the fifth-best mark in program history.
Distance Events
The distance squad had a dominant showing, led by Daniel Butler's record-setting 8:22.14 in the 3000m, which also earned him a National "B" Standard and a first-place finish. Hayden Bostrom (8:29.97) followed closely, breaking the previous school record and moving to second all-time, while Brevin Vaughan (8:40.62) claimed 10th. Butler added another top performance in the mile, running 4:13.67 to rank fifth all-time, with Bostrom (4:22.09) securing 10th.
For the women, Kahea Figueira won the 3000m with a time of 10:06.90, which also ranked as the ninth-best mark in program history. Kylee Quinton impressed in the 1000m with a time of 3:03.38, the fourth-fastest in school history. Quinton also ran 5:18.57 in the mile to place 10th all-time.
Throws
The Yotes dominated the weight throw, with Tanner Sackman launching a school-record 18.03m to meet the National "B" Standard. Teammate Keenan Blair added to the success with a throw of 15.17m, placing him eighth all-time. Stella Gray stood out in the shot put, earning sixth all-time with a throw of 12.54m.
Jumps and Multis
In the pole vault, Kiriann Johnson cleared 3.31m to move into second all-time for the Yotes. Thaiden Cannin rounded out the meet with a strong performance in the heptathlon, scoring 4,029 points to rank 10th in program history.
The Yotes will look to build on their record-breaking momentum as they return to action in early February.
