KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – Offensive woes hindered the College of Idaho women's basketball team Friday night as they fell to Oregon Tech, 73-35, in Cascade Collegiate Conference action at Danny Miles Court.
The Yotes (10-8, 8-5 CCC) faced difficulties finding their rhythm on offense, shooting just 21.5% from the field and 20% from three-point range. Despite their struggles, the Yotes showed resilience on defense, forcing 16 turnovers from Oregon Tech and recording five steals.
Kylie Waltermeyer led the way for College of Idaho with six points, while Brooke Beresford contributed six points and grabbed five rebounds. Lainee Houillon and McKenzie Hirsch each added scoring sparks off the bench, combining for 10 points. The Yotes were also active on the boards, pulling down 33 rebounds, led by Beresford's five.
The game opened with a slow start offensively for the Yotes, as they managed only six points in the first quarter. College of Idaho's effort to close the gap was met with tough defense from Oregon Tech, and the Yotes were outscored 24-10 in the second quarter to head into halftime trailing 37-16.
Despite their struggles, the Yotes continued to battle in the second half. Hirsch connected on two three-pointers to lead a bench effort that provided 18 points overall. However, the team's cold shooting night and a rebounding disparity proved too much to overcome.
The Yotes will aim to regroup quickly as they prepare to face Southern Oregon on Saturday in Ashland, Ore., for another crucial conference matchup.
