Yotes Lock Down Mountaineers in Midweek Rivalry Showdown

CALDWELL, Idaho – The College of Idaho Women's Basketball team delivered an unforgettable performance, defeating long-time rival Eastern Oregon University (EOU) Mountaineers 71-52 in front of an electrified crowd at the J.A. Albertsons Activities Center.

What began as a highly anticipated clash turned into a defensive masterclass by the Yotes. A smothering effort in the second quarter allowed only three points from the Mountaineers, who shot a dismal 5.9% during the frame. The Yotes' defense set the tone, keeping EOU to 34.5% shooting overall and forcing 11 turnovers.

Anna Mooney stood tall and scored a career-high 22 points, shooting an outstanding 8-for-10 from the field, including a perfect 4-for-4 from beyond the arc. Mooney's precise shooting and composure at the free-throw line provided a steady offensive heartbeat for the Yotes.

Brooke Beresford dominated the boards, hauling in eight rebounds to lead the Yotes' 38-28 advantage on the glass. The Yotes also showcased their ball movement, tallying 17 assists compared to EOU's 11, exemplifying their selfless play and chemistry.

For EOU, Kelsie Siegner was the lone bright spot, scoring 15 points and pulling down nine rebounds. Despite Siegner's efforts, the Mountaineers were unable to generate consistent offense, particularly from long range, where they converted just 3-of-17 attempts (17.6%).

The Yotes were superior across the board, shooting 43.8% from the field compared to EOU's 34.5% and dominating from three-point range at 40.0%. The Yotes' bench also played a pivotal role, contributing 16 points to the Mountaineers' nine.

The Yotes continue their home stand Friday at 5:30 against Multnomah and look to build off of their 7-3 record in the CCC.
