KIRKLAND, Wash. — The College of Idaho women's basketball team flexed its defensive muscles Thursday evening, holding the Northwest University Eagles to just three points in a suffocating second-quarter performance. The Yotes capitalized on their defensive prowess, cruising to a 74-55 victory on the road.
Senior Ashton Adamson delivered an exceptional performance, recording a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Complementing her efforts, sophomore Kylie Waltermeyer led all scorers with 17 points, shooting an efficient 8-of-13 from the field.
The Yotes also showcased their efficiency at the free-throw line, going a perfect 8-for-8, while the Eagles managed only 3-for-5. The team's hustle on the boards was evident as they outrebounded Northwest by a staggering 42-24 margin.
Statistically, the Yotes dominated across key metrics. They shot 44.1% from the field compared to the Eagles' 36.5%, and their relentless pressure contributed to 19 turnovers by Northwest. Despite committing 16 turnovers themselves, the Yotes converted points off turnovers more effectively, outscoring the Eagles 20-12 in this category.
Notably, second-chance points were tied at four apiece, reflecting a balanced battle on offensive rebounds. However, the Yotes' ability to extend possessions was underscored by Adamson's crucial offensive boards.
The game also highlighted the Yotes' consistency, with contributions from Brooke Beresford and Anna Mooney, who added 13 and 10 points, respectively. Defensively, the team's second-quarter lockdown was pivotal, holding the Eagles to just 6.7% shooting in the frame.
The College of Idaho women's basketball team, now 8-5 overall and 6-2 in conference play, continues their road trip tomorrow with a matchup against Evergreen State College. Tipoff is scheduled for 4 p.m. MT.
