CALDWELL, Idaho – The College of Idaho men's soccer team secured a commanding 3-0 victory over Simpson University (CA) on Senior Night at Simplot Stadium on September 7, 2024. The game honored 11 seniors for their dedication to the program: Caik Silva, Alex Saunders, Ben Calam, Dani Alejos, Pol Romero, Jorge Fernandez, Grant Embree, Mario Ruiz, Baylor Eller, Bernardo Zanatta, and J.J. Osuna.
The Yotes (2-0-1) struck just before halftime in the 45th minute when Keidin Green netted the opening goal, assisted by Pierre Fabre and Maurice Notter. The momentum continued into the second half, with Eric Hornung extending the lead in the 59th minute, capitalizing on a pass from Hugo Gutierrez. The scoring was capped off in the 75th minute by senior Pol Romero, who finished unassisted to seal the victory.
The College of Idaho defense, led by goalkeepers Ben Anderson and Matej Hron, held firm, combining for four saves and ensuring Simpson (0-2-0) remained scoreless. The Yotes dominated offensively, outshooting the Red Hawks 18-4 and earning four corner kicks to Simpson's two.
Next up for the Yotes is a home matchup against Northwest University on September 20th at 3:00 p.m. at Simplot Stadium, marking their first Cascade Collegiate Conference game of the season.
