Yotes Football Opens Season with Dominant Victory Over Lincoln University in Thrilling Night Game

CALDWELL, Idaho — Under the shimmering lights of Simplot Stadium, the College of Idaho Yotes began their 2024 football campaign with an emphatic 45-7 victory over Lincoln University (Calif.) on Saturday night. This matchup marked not only the start of a new season but also the first night game since the program's revival in 2014, creating an electric atmosphere that energized the team and the packed stands.

From the opening kickoff, it was clear that the Yotes were determined to set the tone for the season. The offense wasted no time, driving down the field with precision. Quarterback Andy Peters led the charge, completing 10 of 24 passes for 119 yards and a touchdown. His poise in the pocket and ability to spread the ball to multiple receivers kept the Lincoln defense on their heels throughout the game.

The Yotes' ground attack was equally impressive, amassing a total of 168 rushing yards. Running back Rylie Byington was a standout performer, rushing for 31 yards on 3 carries. Caden Young also converted well on his rush attempts, finding the end zone on two of them. These plays brought the crowd to its feet and helped the Yotes establish a commanding lead early in the contest.

Defensively, the Yotes were relentless, holding Lincoln University to just 7 points. The defense swarmed the ball, forcing five turnovers and consistently pressuring Lincoln's quarterback, who was sacked four times. The defensive front was led by linebacker Kessler Fjellman and Alecki Noyes, who combined for ten tackles.

Special teams also played a pivotal role in the Yotes' dominant performance. Kickers William Botch and Josh Horn were perfect on the night, hitting all six extra-point attempts combined.

As the final whistle blew, the scoreboard read 45-7, a reflection of the Yotes' dominance in every phase of the game. The energy in Simplot Stadium was still buzzing as fans celebrated the victory, signaling that the return of night games to Caldwell was a resounding success.

With this commanding victory, the Yotes have set a high bar for the rest of the season. If the opening game is any indication, College of Idaho football is poised for another exciting and successful year, fueled by a talented roster and the unwavering support of their fans.
